Diaries, 1858-1909.

Brief entry diaries for five of the years from 1862 to 1879 and for most years between 1886 and 1909, with a slightly more extended "Journal" for December 1857-January 1858. While some travel notes (Britain, Germany, France, Italy) comment on museums and works of art and there are occasional references to his readings in ancient history and other subjects, entries are generally brief and primarily record Perry's social life and daily habits. Early journals refer to his friendships with Matthew Arnold and Sir Francis Bertie. Also includes a six page set of notes (Jounal 1858) toward an essay on love, with citations from classical history, literature and mythology; and a small group of accounts and miscellaneous papers, including a short note on a Attic vase and a carte-de-viste photograph (ca. 1860).
